Considered by many to be an evolution of Manhattan and the father of Martini. this cocktail has an uncertain origin. According to one version, it owes its name to the Californian town where the bartender Julio Richelieu would have served, in 1849, a Martinez Special to a gold prospector. Another version attributes the creation to Jerry Thomas, called "The Professor", who in 1862 codifies the drink as Fancy Gin Cocktail and then in 1887 renames it Martinez.
Method of use: Pour the already fresh cocktail into an ice-cooled cup (just put it in the freezer for ten minutes). Complete with a slice of lemon.
