According to an ancient legend, the boundaries between Florence and Siena were established by a trial between two knights: the cock singing would depart from their own towns and the borders would be placed at the meeting point.
The cock that sang first was the black one chosen by the Florentines: the rider departed immediately and came to meet the Senese rival a few miles from Siena.
The Florentine Republic could thus annex the Chianti, and the Gallo Nero (Black Cock) became the symbol of the area.
This red wine produced by the San Leonino winery, a Sangiovese purity, is engraved precisely in this legend because it is produced in that border area between Florence and Siena, and is affected by the contrast between the sea and the more temperate continental climate.
Al Limite has a nice ruby color. The nose reveals more of mulberry and currant, dark spices of pepper and licorice. It has good tasting elegance and pleasant freshness, and a dense tannic texture and good persistence.
It is used at 16° - 18° C.
